Screw Compressor High Temperature

  • Question Title: Screw Compressor High Temperature

We have 2 oil free screw compressor, Atlas Copco ZR type, and we are experiencing high temperature on low pressure element, 225oC.

At the intercooler, temperature is decreased to 30oC but the intercooler pressure is slightly higher than normal at 2.7barg compared to 2.5barg maximum.

Do we have a problem with any of the element?

Previously, we encountered the same increase in temperature on the second element but it was just a faulty instrument. The sensor was replaced.

Hi Flora,

Thanks for your question.

I suspect that yes, you might have a faulty sensor again. Best is to replace it and see the results before checking anything else.

I wonder why the inter-cooler pressure is now a little higher than before. But 2.7 bar is just a little bit higher and should not indicate that the LP element temperature can rise to 225 degrees.

You could also check the cooling water flow through the LP element. If the canals are blocked, the element will overheat.

More general info on our oil free rotary screw compressor page.

Good luck and let me know if you fixed the problem.
