Hi there. my compressor keeps over-pressuring till the relief valve blows... i have taken the pressure switch/regulator apart and everything seems the norm. i have NO control of the pressure or engine speed. it runs full bored till the relief valve blows.. i have taken apart most lines and valves apart and cleaned..(not that they needed it) If i open the valve she will continue to pump lots of air and wont blow the relief valve but as soon as i close valve she starts building pressure and starts to bog down until the relief valve blows.
thanks you very much in advance for your time !!! im sure we ALL appreciate people like you who create these forums to help individuals like us. thanks again..

just another quick question.. does the regulator/pressure control need back pressure ? i took it off and hooked direct to another shop compressor to see if it works.. assuming the more you turn in the screw, the more air it would deliver threw it..but,it does not work like that.. if i put my thumb over the end which air should come out there is very little flow..(doesnt matter how far i turn the setting screw) BUT if i press hard all of a sudden there is alot of "volume" of air that pushes back again my thumb.. the harder i push, the more volume it seems..and when i release my thumb it go back to just a tiny flow. which kinda make sense for this type. This regulator is split on the exit, one line goes to the air cylinder that controls the engine speed.. and the other goes to the blower. I am stumped..haha..
Hi Dave,
Sorry for my late reply.. and thank you :)
It looks like the regulator valve is stuck closed, dirty, or simply not working.
There should be a lot more air coming out if you disconnect the output. Actually, I think that when the compressor reaches maximum pressure (and it should slow down and close the inlet valve), the pressure output from the regulator valve would be FULL compressor pressure.. at least 3 or 4 bars at least.. I don't have much experience with this compressor, so I don't know exact values.
Further, the fact that both the engine and the compressor inlet valve don't operate correctly indicates that the problem is probably with this regulating valve.
On a side note: there is a 'idle warm-up/blow down' switch on the control panel. On other compressors this is often called 'load/unload' button. What is basically does is it by-passes the regulation control valve and puts full air receiver pressure on the control lines (towards inlet valve and engine speed).
Alright.. try to check and clean the regulating valve if you haven't done so already. If nothing helps, replace it.
Good luck!
Cas
Hi Cas and thank you very much for the reply! i just got a new kit for the regular and still the same thing.. there is NO warm up/blow down on this unit. or even shows that there was one on the panel. i still dont understand this type of regulator... it doesnt seem to operate like a normal regular.. it seems to need a certain amount of backpressure for the reg. to work.. like i said in early message if i put backpressure on the outlet of the regulator then it seems to work.. kinda.. haha.. i could send a picture of the unit if it may help you ...
