Ingersoll 185 and sullair troubles

I have an ingersoll rand 185 cfm portable compressor. I purchased in as is condition. I recall on another similar unit I used to have there was a push button (not safety override) that you had to push after the engine is running to allow the machine to make air. If not pressed no air would come out outlets. The spot is there for it on this machine but it is missing. I don't know what is is called to order correct parts or where the line that ran to it would connect on the machine. It is a 1995 year model. I got machine non running it had a clogged fuel return line. After getting it running it would blow oil (a lot) out of exiting air at times but not all the time. What can I check that could be causing excessive oil only at certain times. I also have a sullair (185 cfm I think) I found tag on air end of compressor but #s came up with nothing when I searched them. I bought in non running condition. The engine cranks over slowly, at first thought starter was bad and had rebuilt with no improvement. After that I noticed there is a lot of suction on air intake on compressor but no air comes out of outlets when open while cranking motor. After stopping cranking engine air slowly bleeds back out the air intake. I'm assuming it is building pressure and not exiting that is why engine turns over so slowly. What can I check to allow air to pass through while cranking. It does not have the button like the ingersoll but does have several switches on controls, but control panel was taken out and has some wires off. Can I run a jumper wire to bypass? Thankyou for any assistance. Iam a fairly knowledgeable mechanic on the diesel motors but am ignorant when it comes to the compressors. Thank you
